Game overview
Word Precision challenges players to form valid words from letter sets under timed conditions, with optional board-placement variants where letter multipliers reward planning. Dictionaries are fixed and disclosed by language pack. The format emphasises precision: invalid submissions cost time and score, so strong players blend lexical knowledge with careful checking.
Letter sets are dealt from balanced bags or shared seeds so that competition heats remain comparable. Drawing letters introduces controlled variety; winning still depends on what you form from the letters you receive and how efficiently you use them.
Objective
Build the highest round score by submitting valid words, maximising letter and placement value, and managing the round timer effectively.
Skills involved
Performance in Word Precision is driven by the skills below. Rankings reflect how well participants apply them under the published rules — not random prize draws.
- Vocabulary depth
- Anagram and pattern skill
- Orthographic accuracy
- Strategic board use
Skill factors in detail
- Recognition of high-value letter combinations
- Knowledge of accepted dictionary forms
- Efficient search through available letters
- Board placement strategy where multipliers apply
- Risk management when time is nearly expired
How scoring works
Each valid word scores by letter values plus any placement multipliers active on the board variant in play. Word length bonuses apply above published thresholds. A first-use bonus may apply when a word is unique within the round among your submissions. Invalid words (not in the approved dictionary, or reusing letters beyond availability) score zero and incur a short lockout penalty that reduces remaining productive time. Duplicate submissions of the same word by the same player do not score again. At round end, a Fluency Bonus may apply based on the count of distinct valid words above a baseline, rewarding breadth without replacing quality. Scores are recomputed server-side against the official dictionary; client-displayed totals are provisional until validated.
Winner determination
The highest validated round score wins. Series events aggregate rounds as published. Dictionary version identifiers are shown in the round lobby so that disputes reference a specific lexicon build.
Tie breakers
If two or more participants share the same primary score after validation, the following ordered tie-breakers apply:
- Higher count of distinct valid words
- Higher longest valid word score contribution
- Fewer invalid submission attempts
- Earlier timestamp of the final scoring submission
- If still tied, a one-minute letter-set tie-break under identical rules
